Katy Perry has revealed she’s going vegan.
The popular singer posted about her decision on Twitter. She announced that Nugget, her beloved micro teacup poodle, would be making the switch with her. Perry also has a toy poodle, named Butters.
“I’m about 95% ready to be 100% vegan,” she Tweeted. “My dog Nugget has been joining me on this journey for the past 4 months.”
She added: “Pray for us ok.”
Perry’s decision isn’t a surprise; she is publicly a fan of vegan products, particularly the Impossible Burger. She’s an investor in Impossible Foods, the creator of the meat-like Impossible Whopper, and has endorsed the company on multiple occasions.
She has even dressed up as an Impossible Burger, more than once. The first time was for the 2019 Met Gala, and the second was for Taylor Swift’s You Need to Calm Down music video. Perry posted an image of the pair on Instagram (Swift was dressed in a French fry costume), with the caption: “This meal is BEEF-Free.”
During her recent pregnancy, Swift once again showed support for the Impossible Burger, after revealing she had become “grossed out” by beef. “I’m not really into red meat,” she said during an Instagram Live. “Thank God for the Impossible Burger.”
Perry’s fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom, also enjoys vegan food. In fact, the singer once revealed he had tried to get her to adopt a vegan diet before. She told Entertainment Tonight in 2018: “He’s always trying to get me to go hike, or do yoga or eat vegan.”
So while Perry seems ready to take this step into plant-based living (95 percent, to be exact), is Nugget?
Can Dogs Go Vegan?
Many experts say yes, it’s ok for dogs to go vegan, as long as they are getting all the nutrients they need.
According to veterinary specialist Dr. Andrew Knight, long-term meatless diets can potentially improve dog health. (But if you’re thinking of transitioning your dog’s diet, it’s best to do it with the guidance and supervision of a vet.)
He explained in a study titled Vegetarian versus Meat-Based Diets for Companion Animals: “Such diets have been associated with benefits. Such as improved coat condition, allergy control, weight control, increased overall health and vitality, arthritis regression, diabetes regression, cataract resolution, and decreased incidences of cancer, infections, hypothyroidism, and ectoparasites.”
Perry isn’t the first to transition her dog’s diet away from meat. Formula One race car driver and passionate vegan Lewis Hamilton recently made the same decision for his dog Roscoe.
“Roscoe is now fully vegan,” Hamilton wrote on social media. “Since he has gone vegan, his coat is much softer, his paws have healed up, he is no longer limping with the pain of arthritis and his breathing has opened up.”
